Jiyai Shin failed to win at Phoenix

Posted by admin as Jiyai Shin

Jiyai Shin shot a 70 on the final round and lost to Karrie Web at the J Golf LPGA International in Phoenix. The Australian pipped the South Korean with 2 stroked after record an impressive round of 67. It was not to be the Miss Final Round for Jiyai this time around.

But it was all about the impressive play by Karrie Webb and seem not making any mistakes who started the day with just 1 stroke behind Jiyai Shin.

The LPGA world has so many potential players to be number one this year. Lorena so far has not been consistent enough to keep her position and the remaining players are always too close to each other in their games. But one player we know who will always shows some consistence and hunger for win is Jiyai Shin.

Tiger Woods still the world number one

Posted by admin as Tiger Woods

He is back and roaring to win the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill in one of the most remembered comeback in recent golf starting with 5 strokes behind the third round leader Sean O’Hair. Once again the pressure was too much for Sean to handle when playing with someone like Tiger Woods.

With barely enough light for extra holes, Tiger sinked a 12 foot birdie putt to secure the win at the final hole. He has yet again proved that he is still the world’s best golfer.

This is a good start for the next event at Augusta and Woods is once again be one of the clear favourite to win at Augusta and another major.

Tiger could win at Bay Hill and defend the Arnold Palmer Invitational

Posted by admin as Tiger Woods

Tiger Woods could win the Arnold Palmer Invitational championship despite that nobody really give him any chance to win after watching him played at the earlier tournaments. Leading the table is Sean O Hair, five strokes ahead of Tiger and we all well know that what kind of pressure when one play alongside Tiger.

We do hope that Sean will maintain his cool and mental toughness and at least give a fair fight to Tiger. If Tiger wins he is a hot favourite for the Masters in weeks to come. But now we all know that Tiger is almost 100% back to his best form.

Tiger Woods is just 3 strokes back at Bay Hill

Posted by admin as PGA

Tiger Woods defending his Arnold Palmer Invitation title is just 3 strokes back the leader of Jason Gore on the first round with of 68. As usual Woods was everywhere, had his shot in the water, the trees but managed to scrambled with 8 consecutives 1 putt of which 4 are straight birdie putts.

If we are talking about the 2007 Tiger Woods I would put all my money that he will win this tournament. The first round leader Jason Gore has not been playing that well in the PGA lately and it is still too early to say if he is the favourite to win this tournament.

Ryo Ishikawa drove 2 balls into the par 5 sixth and made a nine. He finished the round at 76 and we really hope that Ryo will amend his mistakes n Friday and at least make it to the weekends rounds. Still I cannot see a clear favourite to win here, but it will be highly likely an unknown underdogs will emerge as the winner on Sunday.

Cheers.

Michelle Wie to come back

Posted by admin as Michelle Wie

Michelle Wie made some big headlines a couple of years ago, having earning more than 10 million dollars off the field and competing in the men’s events. Many will say that the young Michelle could not handle all the pressures and expectation when she decided to go pro.

A great player at the right age and drives some 300 yards for a lady golfer, obviously she has a lot to promise in the LPGA and ladies golf. But soon after that no much has been heard from the super star who has yet to win any single tournament yet.

In fact after just before the retirement of Anikka Sorenstam, many great players emerged whom we had not heard off, like Yani Tseng, Jiyai Shin who could be the real next best thing to happen in ladies golf. In fact these girls were not even thought to be in the world top 10, but their hard work and efforts paid.

We like to see Michelle come back again to prove herself in the LPGA. She is one of the natural talented players and good physique that any good players need to be the best in the world.

In the game of golf, we need more than just talent or physique, but there are other things which are more important like your mental strength either in the field or off the field. Michelle maybe a little bit unfortunate to be the one who just not able to make it, but we are sure that at this age she still has a very long way to go. What going to happen is up to Michelle to decide how she is going to go about it.

Ryo Ishikawa’s swing

Posted by admin as Ryo Ishikawa

Japanese rising star and one of the world longest hitter has one of the best swing in the world. Being just a teenager, Ryo has the advantage to have a very flexible body in order to create a fast swing speed at impact. Below are the videos of Ryo’s swing. Hopefully those who still has the body flexibility can try to follow the swing, if not at least half of it.

Live and die with Taylormade

Posted by admin as Taylormade

Golfers seems to have their favourite choice of golf club brands and some golfers will stick to just 1 single brand. There are many good clubs from well known club makers nowadays. During the pro tournament on TV we can see our favourite players swinging drivers made from the same club we have in our bag. We start to out our club and try to make the same swing, but did not arrive quite the same.

One of the most successful club maker is Taylormade. I am a big fan of Taylormade. I used to have an R7 driver and now I’m using a limited edition of R7 forged iron. It is a limited edition, sold mostly in Japan and made to the finest finishing.

Taylormade is no doubt one of the best maker of golf driver in the world. At any professional tournament we could easily see almost half of the players are swinging the Taylormade brand. The latest in the new R9 driver which made the debut in early January. Now long after that we saw Sergio Garcia wearing the R9 cap obviously showing that Sergio is hitting with the new driver. Sergio Garcia is the best driver hitter in the world. The world number 2 player always find his ball right in the middle of the fairways with miles from the tee box.

With the new R9 and Taylormade’s ever improving technology it will not be surprising if Sergio can tipped Tiger to be number 1 this year, now that Tiger still has not fully getting to his best touch yet.

Many European PGA players also seems to be doing quite fairly with Taylormade. Some of the top 10 finishers in any tournament will have at least 5 would have Taylormade clubs in their bags.

So will we amateur or weekend golfers maintain our love for Taylormade. I would certainly maintain my iron and we try to get the new R9 or any later versions of Taylormade drivers. Well it all depends on the current economic situation.

Until then, we do hope that Taylormade will keep improving on their club technology and keep their price low enough to be affordable by many.

Old putter helps the Goose to win the Transition Championship

Posted by admin as Retief Goosen

Retief Goosen is back winning again and today at the Transition Championship carding 8 under par. The South African has a very unstable year last year dropping from the top 10 players to 40th in the world rankings.

Goosen used the old putter he used to win the US Open and it worked. Last year we saw Retief used the longer belly putter and failed to produce some good results. He changed back to his old swashbuckler putter which he has resigned to the back of his garage and managed to find back his touch.

Why would want to change our putter after it helped us to win a major championship. With the win We should see more of Retief Goosen in the near future. Now that he decided to play more in the US PGA, we do hope that Retief will play more tournaments in Europe and Asia.

Bunker play-secrets revealed

Posted by admin as Bunker

Author: Dave Curran

Everyone knows how frustrating they can be if you don’t know the proper mechanics to get out of them. But the bottom line is, for the pros, bunker shots are some of the easiest shots on the course.

These steps will ensure that you have the right mechanics for getting out of bunkers. Once you’ve read these steps, practice them and get used to hitting out of bunkers, and they will become just as natural as a regular short game shot. These steps will give you the solid foundation that you need for bunker success.

Here are the steps: (note: These steps apply to a normal sand bunker. Not wet or hard sand)

1. Choke down on the golf club (Have your right index finger about an inch from the bottom of the grip). Choking down gives you the control with the club and also allows you to “feel” the shot rather than hitting it.

2. Narrow your stance a little and play the ball a few inches forward in your stance. This will also aid in controlling the shot, and it will contribute to higher ball flight.

3. Dig into the sand with your feet a little and get comfortable.

4. Keep your body completely still throughout (no twisting hips).

5. Start your swing with your arms and keep your swing vertical. The end of the grip butt should be pointed at the ball at the top of your backswing. (Don’t bring the club straight back, remember steep is better here!)

6. Your left arm should be parallel to the ground and fully extended at the top of your swing.

7. Then start your downswing at the sand focusing to hit 1 inch behind the ball. Don’t focus on hitting the ball, hit the sand an inch behind and the ball will get out every time!

8. Your arms and body follow the ball as it leaves the sand.

9. Remember steep angle into the sand is key here, however you don’t have to swing too hard, we are not blasting the ball out we are advancing it.

Drill:

Go into a bunker and take 3 clubs your pitching wedge, sand wedge, and a lob wedge(if you have one). Remember that you can get creative with shots; just because it’s a sand wedge doesn’t mean that you’ll “feel” the most comfortable or give you the best results. But I want you to notice the difference in design and performance.

Regardless, hit a few shots with each club and really notice the difference in how the ball comes out of the sand. Then choose the club that bests suits you. But remember on all these clubs swing steep and hit 1 inch behind the ball. You can even draw a line 1-2 inches behind the ball and aim for that line.

At home, office, or at the course take practice swings and focus on bringing the club up at a steep angle. Watch as your grip end points to the ground. And stop there – this is the position that you want to be in. A great way to see if the grip is pointed over the ball is sticking a tee in the grip handle. Do that a few times to ensure that you know where to stop the golf club and start your steep downswing. Then the downswing is easy! Just hit an inch behind the ball.

Practice this for a few days then go have fun in a bunker!
